COMMITMENT
to the arts ..... |
Ivy and Stone is a volunteer organization located
in Summersville (Nicholas County) West Virginia. Our purpose is to present
literary, visual and performing arts in Nicholas County and to assist in
supporting a place for the literary, visual and performing
arts.
Since our beginning in January 1992,
Ivy & Stone has actively promoted the arts in Nicholas County. Created
to entertain, enhance and educate through the arts, Ivy & Stone has
provided a venue in which local artists and visiting professionals may
showcase their talents.
As we approach the
fifteenth year, we are
encouraged by the enthusiasm generated by our programming. We have reached
an audience of nearly 61,000 having presented:
46 musical concerts 7 theatre productions 25
young
children's programs 6 dance programs 94 school performances 9 school residencies 3 literary opportunities
16 FREE Literary Lunches
6 FREE Summer Serenade Series
2 Potato Festival Spud Hunts 36
workshops 6 "Live
the Arts" programs (featuring local artists) supplied $20,000 in mini-grants
to area artistic ventures ...and all by an entirely
volunteer organization!

DIVERSITY in
the arts..... |
All artistic disciplines are featured
- from the literary arts to the performing arts to the visual arts: Ivy
& Stone has endeavored to provide a forum for all to be seen, heard
and experienced. Aside from providing artistic opportunities, Ivy &
Stone has involved local writers, teachers, musicians and technicians in
the orchestration of our events.
Constant monitoring of our community
"wants" provides us with the information we need to program more
effectively and to offer something for everyone.

From Bach to Bluegrass in the
performing arts; from a child's drawing to stone sculpture in the visual
arts, and from poetry to a finished theatre script in the literary arts,
Ivy & Stone has the passion to offer quality cultural events that can
be experienced without leaving home. These are programs that not only
enhance our community, but put us on a more equal footing with more
metropolitan areas.
Our efforts have not only delivered
public performances, but school programs as well. Over 55,000 children at the
elementary, junior high, and high school levels in our community have enjoyed and learned
about the arts and themselves by being exposed to "live"
performers. Families can be inspired and touched by the talents of
exceptional artists.
